MAYOR'S MESSAGE
Dear Residents: Now that students are back to school, I urge all motorists and pedestrians alike to be extra cautious and I again remind pedestriams to be certain that traffic, in both directions, is stopped before entering a crosswalk.
We have received several complaints regarding excessive noise caused by trucks using their Engine Brakes or "Jake Brakes" in residential area. Although there is no provincial law against their use and we have no jurisdiction, we are contacting local trucking companies asking that they limit their use as much as possible. Council plans to have signage to this effect erected on our truck routes shortly.
We have made a great deal of progress over the past few years with many major projects completed or nearing completion. However, there is still a lot to be accomplished. Work will begin shortly to replace the sewer line under the bridge and to replace the electrical panels in our older lift stations. In addition, planning continues for a new Fire Hall as well as several other projects.
I want to commend our staff for their dedication to their work for, in addition to their regular duties, every project, big or small, requires a great amount of planning and preparation and with the ever increasing demands by the other two levels of government regarding regulations and requirements, the auditing and reporting process for each project is very time consuming.
I also want to thank our Volunteer Fire Fighters for their hard work and dedication in providing our and surrounding area with the fire protection that we sometimes take for granted. I wonder how many of us realize that due to provindial regulations, each volunteer must take 420 hours of training and pass the necessary exams to become a level 1 Fire Fighter.
Our Municipal Emergency Plan group has provided "72 Hour Emergency Preparedness", information to the residents of the area affected by flooding last December. More of these brochures are on order and will be available at the Village Office within the next couple of weeks have been ordered.
In the meantime, I want to share the following message with you:
As witnessed in many areas of Canada and around the world unexpected weather events can interfere with our daily lives with little or no warning. These can occur in the form of windstorm, forest fires, storm surges, and flooding to name only a few. Our Municipal Emergency Plan attempts to provide for the safety of our residents. However, our resources are limited and we, too, must rely on Environment Canada and New Brunswick EMO Officials for information on weather events.
We request that you pay close attention to your surroundings and weather forecasts in order to be aware of possible dangerous situations that could affect you. In the event of an emergency, we encourage you to find shelter with family or friends away from the affected area before it reaches a crisis level. You would find this more comfortable than relying on an emergency shelter.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact me at our Municipal Office at (506) 523-6921. Respectfully, David L. Hanson
