Mayor's Message

On behalf of the residents of the Village of Rexton, I am pleased to welcome you to this web site. The beautiful Village of Rexton was founded in the early 1800’s. Originally it was known as Kingston, but in 1901, the name was officially changed to Rexton. Today, there is a blend of people of both English and Acadian descent.

Our community is rich in history being the site of a major shipbuilding industry. The Jardine family is possibly the family to have built the most ships in New Brunswick’s history. They alone built over 100 wooden sailing vessels in the 1800’s in Rexton (then Kingston).

Rexton was the birthplace of the Right Honourable Andrew Bonar Law, the only Prime Minister of Great Britain to be born outside of the British Isles. His birthplace in Rexton is now a provincial historic site.

The Village of Rexton lies on both sides of the beautiful Richibucto River which flows into the Northumberland Strait. This waterway is navigable by small watercraft and offers both excellent swimming and boating facilities.

Our population increases considerably during the summer months due to our close proximity to Kouchibouquac National Park, Le Pays de la Sagouine, and La Dune de Bouctouche. All of these attractions offer recreational facilities for visitors to our region.

Come visit us; stay a while and enjoy our Maritime hospitality. Browse our website for further information on our community.

Hon. David L. Hanson
